A recurring part of my technique is to begin with an existing image or a deliberately created foundation. Within these first layers, I often embed hidden traces, forms reminiscent of fossils, hieroglyphic marks, fragments of words or even entire texts.
As the actual painting develops, these elements are gradually painted over and sometimes almost completely disappear beneath the final composition. Yet they remain part of the work, physically embedded within its layers and carrying a history that may no longer be immediately visible.
For me, the surface of a painting is therefore not only what can be seen. It can also contain what came before, thoughts, symbols and traces preserved underneath, much like something buried and rediscovered over time.
